More than 100 participated in the August 20 event to learn about proposed plans for Stockbridge's historic downtown area.

The newly designated Stockbridge Main Street Program hosted its first Meet & Greet event on Thursday, August 20th at 6:30 p.m.More than 100 business owners, community leaders, and residents gathered to learn more about the Main Street Program and proposed plans for the Stockbridge’s historic downtown area. Main Street Manager, Kira Harris-Braggs, provided event attendees with a program overview and outlined proposed plans for “creating a sense of place” in the downtown area which would include wayfinding signage to and throughout the district, a banner program to delineate the Main Street district boundaries, and various partnerships to leverage resources.  Special presentations were made by Dale Hall, the City’s Director of Administration and Community Development, who provided three options for “redefining downtown” and City Councilman, Alphonso Thomas, along with Stockbridge resident, Kenneth Banks, spoke about the proposed renaming of Berry Street to Martin Luther King, Sr., in recognition of the City’s King Family legacy.
